Pulse Testing FAQ

Pulse Testing - Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if it fails?

Our pre-survey will eliminate the installations that are not suitable for pulse testing. However, if it is found that the installation has made the building more airtight then background ventilation will have to be installed.

What type of products are suitable?

All replacement windows on the market are suitable as long as they are no more airtight than the windows being replaced.

How long does it take?

This depends on the size and complexity of the property, however, most initial tests will take around 25- 30 minutes. The second test will be around 15-20 minutes.

Can I be in the house?

Absolutely, the test has been designed so that people can go about their business in their homes whilst they test is prepared. We just ask that everyone stays still for the 20 seconds of the actual test itself as moving around can affect the readings.

Is it dangerous?

Not at all. The test is a controlled release of compressed air at low pressure. You can’t even feel it, they only way you know the test is running is there are two bursts of sound that last around 2 seconds each, they sound like static from an old radio or TV set.

Do you need access to power?

Yes, we will need access to a single plug socket to power the compressor and sensors.

What do I get?

Upon a successful result, you will receive a certificate that provides both test results and confirms that the air tightness of your property has been made no worse by the installation of your new windows and doors. This can be provided to anyone enquiring as to why vents have not been installed such as Local Authority Building Control, A competent person scheme inspector or any conveyancing surveyor.
